Green Wedding Tip :: Eco-Chic Nails and Toes

There comes a time in wedding planning when you’ve already selected the local florist, raided the nearest thrift store and handpicked your repurposed centerpieces but what about… YOU! Every gal wants to get pampered, polished and prepped to ensure that bridal glow on their BIG day. After thinking green for your event, keep the ball rollin’ when it comes to your nails and toes.

Luckily, in D/FW we have SPAtaneity, a natural nail salon offering everything from a soakless manicure, eco-fin hand therapy, soothing massage and even Spa Parties for you and your maids. The best part about this spa; when you walk in the door you’re not overwhelmed by the heavy duty toxic chemical smell that you find in most salons. CAN I GET AN AMEN?!?

For those of you not in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, take the steps to treat yourself the green way.

Here are a few eco-healthy tips for your hands and feet:

  • Look for salons using “Big 3 Free” polish, products without dibutyl phthalate (DBP), formaldehyde and toluene which cause skin irritation and have that nasty smell
  • Bring your own lacquer to the salon
  • Ask the owner what steps are used to avoid cross contamination
  • Stay away from Shellac and Axxium procedures involving UV lamps

Fortunately, being aware of the chemicals in skin products is popular and cosmetic companies are following this trend. “Big 3 Free” polish brands are showing up on store shelves all over. Check out some of my faves…

 *Peace Keeper Cause Metics

*No Miss – Healty Alternative Cosmetics

*Honey Bee Gardens

All of these companies offer other cosmetic products such as lip gloss, eye shadows, removers as well as everything you need for a salon-style mani/pedi.

Remember, just because you want a green salon experience does not mean you have to walk out looking like Kermit the Frog.
